[The Other Asians] is an online magazine, established in February 2011, which centers on the diverse and multi-generational Asian American community. They aim to showcase current and up-and-coming Asian Americans in careers outside of the traditional, cultural, and conventional realms.
Melly, one of the core members of OA, contacted me via email a just a few weeks ago to arrange an interview. Here’s what went down:
↑ The conversation took place at a Vietnamese restaurant recommended by Benny down at South San Francisco area.
After a good 7 hour drive from Irvine (they took off at 5 in the morning), we met to get things rolling. They had a jam packed schedule and I was the first of their many meetings. Pressure’s on me.
[Melly’s] a super talented photographer and [Benny’s] a marketing guru. It’s motivating to see different creatives coming together to dedicate their time on meaningful projects like the OA.
Time flew by really quickly. [Here’s what summed up the 2 hour convo]
Picture time.
Melly only shoots with prime lenses. Here’s the 85mm, I believe. She’s also got a 100mm on the go.
Byron, Benny’s brother, and Adrienne came to help out, too!

Check out the interview [here] or if you’d just like to know what my favorite color is.
’til next time!
