My Tripod Goodie

Any photographer needs a tripod like Superman with his red tighty whitey. I recently visited bargain barn and picked up a tripod that was missing a few pieces. Kevin(MonkeyPhobia) and I believed that this was THE opportunity to kill a Friday afternoon…

This is it, the 52″, 3 section tubular legs, aluminum body, light weight tripod.

But it’s missing a few things:

The pad on top that actually holds the camera.

…and the side nub that holds the platform in place.

——————————————————————————————————
So there we are, knowing the missing parts that needed to be replaced and with Kevin having the access to UCD woodcutting workshop, we were off to a trip to complete this semi-DIY tripod project.

we grabbed a piece of good quality left-over-wood piece(free) for the holding platform.

Kevin and his machines.

Here it is, the platform.

We carved out an angled piece in the front to fit the socket and added a piece in the back because… the square we first cut out was too small.

A screw(1/4″ diameter, 20 threads per inch) was added, too, to attach with the bottom of the camera.

The first hole was drilled too wide. fail.

But all is good. Signatures by Kevin and I.

Now the second part:

The side nob was missing to hold the platform in place, so we hit up ACE hardware for some supplies.

There it was, we fixed the problem by finding the right nub with 1 rubber washer and 3 brass washer to keep things in place.

The moment was glorious.
