Berkeley Marina

While everywhere else was at its high 80s, Berkeley Marina offered a mildly soothing piece of utopia. Even with a good load of work piling up, I finally found an excuse to walk out that front door – it’s been way too long since I last had my vitamin D. A quick break turned out to be a pretty awesome adventure.

Lu, Margaret, and I discovered this place by accident. We spot a giant squid (you’ll what I’m talking about in a bit) in the air and thought we’d track it down, here’s where we ended up:

↑ We settled at the Cesar Chavez State Park, which was right next to the Berkeley Marine Center. The idea of taking a picture of the sign of its next door neighbor seemed more relevant at that time. mah bad.

In today’s post – we got Lu, the energized bunny, and Margaret, the polar opposite.

We came prepared – $1 baseball kit from dollar store holding it down. It was a good investment, 1 buck for 2 hours of fun.

THE GIANT SQUID OCTOPUS!

↑That shiz was freaking ginormous. This place’s Berkeley, I spot it around Albany – that’s 1 city away.

Cross eye’d, but all good:

Wide open space, breezy, good view. Can’t get any better than this for a summer afternoon.

Tent, check.

Sun, check.

Beer, check.

One last thing:

Sweets, check.

Now we’re ready to party:

This is the last shot I took for awhile..

After about 2 hours of baseball, you’d see the clear example of “you get what you pay for.”

↑ Beaten bat – keep in mind that we were hitting plastic balls a bit tougher than cheap hotel toilet tissue.

Broken balls. sorry, ladies.

↑Sign of a good time.

While Lu and I pitching ,swining bats, and sweating like sea monkeys, Margaret had the best nap of her life. She wouldn’t even have noticed if people stole the purse, drinks, and the tent.

Couple of games later, we ventured into the wild to discover the rest of the park:

found shrooms. clearly bitten. and apparently a bad decision – whoever/whatever bit it only took one bite, then bounced.

Spent the rest of the time walking around to capture the faces that shared the park:

↑ The older kids are making out leaving the younger one toying with her phone. and we all know not even the best game in app store can overshadow the awkwardness. Ah, so typical.

Reading with swag.

Good time, good day.

’til next spontaneous adventure,
