Daft Punk—The Hanger Project

061213_1A fairly quick and inexpensive project.

It started with these two hangers:

Never have I paid any attention to hangers. But last weekend, as I was walking the dogs in the backyard, I stumbled across these hangers that were accidentally left on the floor from hang drying (yes, that’s how I roll) laundry. I couldn’t help but noticed that they’re of the same aesthetic with just difference in color; one being silver and another gold. “Daft Punk” came to mind immediately and sprouted the idea for this project, which eventually made me skipped breakfast and used up 2 hours of my Sunday morning.

To deal with metal bending (there’s an Avatar joke here somewhere), pliers are your best bet. Unless you have hands of steel.

The characters will each be made of a single hanger, so I did a quick line art of them via illustrator. 061213_4

Figure out how long (in length) it’d take to complete your line art. Seems like a typical metal hanger is about 41″.

I traced the hanger with the printed design.

About 50 minutes late, I’m half way done: 061213_11

Bending hanger is tougher than I expected. With details that require bending to a minor angles, it’ll destroy your fingers (use pliers).
