FAME 2011

Had a blast at FAME this past weekend. It’s a bi-annual event on fashion, art, and music. If you’re unfamiliar with it, time to get familiar.  Bobbi Vie holding it down once again in San Jose. Not only was this an opportunity to meet new folks, it brought all the Bay Area and out-of-state brands back together. It’s always inspiring to catch with the comrades I met from my past FAME events.

Enough of intro, let’s cut right to the good stuff.
I’m trying to get rid of the habit of making-new-set-ups-for-shows, especially when time’s running out:

Crunch time. I was out and about down at LA for the past week, so I didn’t get to prep all the material needed till last minute. (Bad move on me, lesson learned) Good thing the peeps at Home Depot were awfully nice and made this possible.

The closest thing I found for affordable artificial grass. Idea was to recreate a personal space for the booth – including the floor that you step on.

I do like the last set up, but when weighing in the time and effort it takes to set up and the sturdiness of the structure, I decided to go towards a new route – one with galvanized pipes:

↑After 4 drafts of the new rack, I figured out all the parts and joint pieces that the structure requires.

Galvanized, rust free.

Adding a few toys and past projects to the display.

That’s a wrap – now it’s the real thing.

Jammed packed around 6PM. The crew and I arrived around 5 and was greeted by the venue full of people. Bobbi changed up the location this year and the place was certainly bigger and wider than the last one.

Marvin and Jon taking care of the documenting aspects of the event. Can’t wait to see wat they’ll have up.

And a GIANT shout out to Marvin for helping us out at F.A.M.E.

These people are my saviors. Tony, Michelle, and Cody came to give me a hand. There’s absolutely no way I could handle the entire booth myself. To go far, you need a team.

From beyond, I spotted Marvin(MKP).

His first appearance at F.A.M.E. and already getting tons of love.

Custom made signs for the event. Good shit.

Sitting right next to me was 1nspiration is Free by Nasty Ray. Most know him as a bboy, but today he stood at FAME as a brand owner. One of the few, if not the only bboy that’s full time dancing, teaching, inspiring, and designing. Mad props.

↑ He’s brought coffee, glow in the dark chalks, and a pinata for the event. Can’t get any more personal than that.

All the way from Vegas, we got Hippoe in the house.

Getting dark.
Attracted by the loud tire squeaks from afar. Turn out:

Didn’t even notice till Jon mentioned: “Is that..Mavin’s car?!”

↑ If you don’t break a sweat now, I don’t think you ever will.

The most visible piece in the room.

Unscripted got it covered.

Always a good time with these fellas from Suhreal.

Jon came out again with gears and snap backs from Fully Laced.

Unbound Vision took a quick break and is now coming back strong. Check out their latest collection and newly ramped site.

The super cool peeps:

↑Mike and Ducko from Davis – Go aggs!

↑ Brian’s ready to go ape and turn the world upside down. Watch out.

↑ Haven’t seen these guys for a loooong ass time. Remember Jobu’s face, he’ll be back real soon.

Quangsta!

↑F.A.M.E’s literally the only place I get to see these guys.

Ryan and his friends are dope.

Denise!

F.A.M.E’s the only place I get to see this guy, too. Julian’s got a few new things up his sleeves. A wooden bow tie?! You’ve seen nothing yet. Watch out for his new work.

With Nasty Ray.

Quick dinner.

I’m guessing it’s because they’re way busy over this event, the taco tasted like it wasn’t fully cooked. Oops.

Hopie tearing up the stage!

Good times. Now that you’ve seen my take , check out more coverage of the event here:
