The same title attracted me, too. To your dismay, I’m not giving out these stickers, Casey Neistat (nice-tat) is. He’s a film maker (vlogs with characters and distinctive organic style), traveler, New Yorker, and DIYer whose got a show on HBO(Neistat brothers) with his brother.
And this is how long it took me to become a fan:
15 minutes. When Nike released its FuelBand, there was a film about a man traveling around the world using the production money given to him from Nike circulating on facebook. It was fast paced, refreshing, and entertaining. So, I went on and started browsing through other videos made by the same artist – it led me to his memorial video for Steve Jobs and another video on repairing a lens hood with a peanut butter lip and another film on… next thing I know, I went through all this fucking videos.
This is Casey. Don’t watch his videos, otherwise you’d get stuck watching his videos all afternoon like me. I learned this the hard way.
Anyway, one of his videos was about two dollar bills. Why he thinks the federal reserve should print more of them and where 2 dollar bills can be applied appropriately. In the end he was offering free 2 dollars stickers to those that mail in an envelope with another envelope with a return address.
I’m pretty lazy, but not lazy enough to pass on free goodies.
Usually I’d spend just enough effort to get things like this done. But now that this guy’s inspired me in more ways than I could remember, I thought I’d send him a few extra lines as well:
Since currency’s the theme, I took a dollar bill, a white out, and a marker to start making this:
I made Washington cool, again.
I also included a few extra stickers for the exchange.
Address, check. Return address, check. Sufficient postage, check.
I got a package with a handful of two dollar bills and an actual bill.
and this letter.
The conversation consisted of only a few words, but it feels pretty darn good to receive something from someone you respect that you’ve never met before. This is exactly how the world today works. We’re exposed to information worldwide and every connection can be made with just a few words and an email (In this case, with a hipster Washington, too.) It’s free, but of course, you have to be willing to spend just enough effort to make it happen.
p.s. I lost the package. Good thing photos were taken as a backup.
til’ next time,
