I’ve been wanting to build this for a long time. It’s a rather bitter sweet situation.. I kept making things that’d make me stay at home. Gotta have one of them vitamin D moments soon.
Pros of this project: Cheap, easy to make.
Cons: Not mobile. Backdrop looks slightly janky. (But I mean, it’s all about the lighting, right)
Also happening: Michelle’s about to have her LSAT this Saturday (Good luck to all you aspiring Lawyers!) she decided to take a quick break. Never good to stress yourself out tooo much before the big exam.
We swung by Target to get all the proper tools for her exam – you’re allowed to bring highlighter (only in yellow), pencils, and a watch (analog only). No purse, no bag.
Ah, the place for all the DIY projects:
..and pigeons’ favorite hangout spot.
This is all I got:
Like I mentioned, it’s a immobile backdrop.
You also need a wall that you’re willing to drill holes in.
The following process took me about 10 minutes: (Measuring the right place + keeping the hooks in place)
Seamless papers go about 40ish-50ish bucks – I chose a white blanket instead.
At the edges of the blank, there are these tunnels:
I grabbed these nylon rope from Home Depot. They’re free.
I linked the rope across the tunnel and tied them to the tips enable to keep the blanket in place.
Finally, roll the blank to your preferred length.
BAM:
There’s still lots to improve and refine.
Issues that I’ve encountered:
1.)The blanket is much softer and less stiff compare to seamless paper -> quite wavy. I have to figure out a way to tighten the surface to avoid shadows cause by the waves.
2.) The blanket’s also heavier than paper -> It’s hard to hold the blanket in place just by rolling them up (gravity plays a big part at pulling the blankets down), so I need a clamp to do the job of holding it up.
Notes to self: aspects needed improvement:
1.) Lighting.
2.) Longer blanket.
Test shots:
↑You see what I meant by the wavy surface and its shadow? It gives characteristics to the photo can be fixed with photoshop – but I’m too lazy for post-production, so I gotta find a solution to flatten the blanket.
DIY backdrop sorta done. Next stop: dinner.
We swung by Berkeley for Korean food. We settled at the one across from the Durant parking garage.
↑We ate more than Kimchi. I was just too busy grubbing on the food than taking photos.
Dessert. Vanilla flavored yogurt was pretty good.
..nope, we ain’t just going to stop after dessert.
We wanted snacks, too.
↑Wingstop has a pretty cool logo.
..and mascot.
While waiting for the wings, we swung by Target, adjacent to Wingstop, again.
Word.
Though, I think the coolest part of this overall pajamas the feet area:
nom nom nom.
Wrapped the day up with a movie – The Town. good stuff. Didn’t know it was directed by Ben Affleck.
↑BOKEH moment.
’til next time.
