Japan Trip – Day 2!

Day 2! The picture above was me charging against dodging the traffic at Shibuya.

Not sure whether it was the excitement or just plain jet lag, we were up and ready to roll at 8:30AM.

Started the day off fresh, had Mos Burger for breakfast.

This burger company originated from Japan, but I’ve already tried it in Taiwan. The burgers are a bit tiny, but definitely fits the Asian’s tastes with their signature rice paddy and teriyaki sauce.

Shinjuku Station – One of the most crowded station in the world – around 3 million users daily. This station’s got all the major transportation needed in Japan, including the JR, subway, metro..etc. You can pretty much get to most part of Japan with the right fare and time.

This is the sign of the basic lines of the JR system.

Jim’s a Sony guy. He’s got his OG alpha 100. Cody’s just gotten his T1i.

First stop – Harajuku.

50mm. 0.4″. 200ISO. f22.

Quite a few fixies at this area.

Ah, Uniqlo.

This is actually the UT (Uniqlo Tee) collection store.

I have heard many great things about Uniqlo’s low cost, high quality products. They also put out tons of outside the box advertisements and web series. Definitely a stop on my book whenever I visit Japan (this being the first time.)

Uniqlo actually have its flagship store, and the only store in the States, in NYC. It wasn’t built yet when I count down at Time Square 4-5 years ago.

Each shirt was packaged in a canister.

They have a bunch of major collaboration tshirts:

Quick note: Series 3 coming soon.

That’s right.

Weather in Japan’s quite humid. Good thing the environment’s clean, or else it’d feel like we’re having a trip in someone’s armpit.

Vending machine’s our best friend. There’s one every 2 blocks, no joke.

Only in Japan.

In the back alley of Harajuku lie the lairs of street wear brands.

Then, just a few blocks down the alley, there are a couple of brands with higher caliber adjacent to each other. Higher caliber? brands that put out t-shirts that costs price at at least $60+

Undercover.

Comme De Garcons.

Ice Cream/BBC

BAPE. Props to Wonderwall for the interior design for BAPE and Original Fake.

Next up, the Bloomindale of Japan.

A crap load of luxurious European brands scatter across the blocks.

Innovation! Have signs placed underneath the balcony

Last stop of the day – Shibuya

Hachiko.

Here’s why the statue’s there:
“In 1924, Hidesaburō Ueno, a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo took in Hachikō as a pet. During his owner’s life Hachikō saw him out from the front door and greeted him at the end of the day at the nearby Shibuya Station. The pair continued their daily routine until May 1925, when Professor Ueno did not return on the usual train one evening. The professor had suffered from a cerebral hemorrhage at the university that day. He died and never returned to the train station where his friend was waiting. Hachikō was loyal and every day for the next nine years he waited sitting there amongst the town’s folk.

Hachikō was given away after his master’s death, but he routinely escaped, showing up again and again at his old home. Eventually, Hachikō apparently realized that Professor Ueno no longer lived at the house. So he went to look for his master at the train station where he had accompanied him so many times before. Each day, Hachikō waited for Professor Ueno to return. And each day he did not see his friend among the commuters at the station.

The permanent fixture at the train station that was Hachikō attracted the attention of other commuters. Many of the people who frequented the Shibuya train station had seen Hachikō and Professor Ueno together each day. They brought Hachikō treats and food to nourish him during his wait.

This continued for nine years with Hachikō appearing precisely when the train was due at the station.”

Shibuya’s also got the one of the most crowded intersection – about 2000 people crosses each green light on a weekend.

That’s a wrap.
