Sharing the idea behind each shirt is one of the my favorite parts of releasing a series. TIZ is personal. Most see TIZ as clothing brand, others see it as a bridge for collaborations. I see it as a dream come true. To me, nothing feels more accomplishing than making ideas tangible. Especially when there are people like you that back me up all this time. Chyeah.
Here goes the first tee of the series – The “California.”
California’s been my home for the last 10 years. I’ve always wanted to make a locational based tee, but never had the spark of making it different from the rest until this series.
California in a cube.
↑ A rough sketch. This is the most intricate design by far. 5 colors were used for printing (I usually go no more than 3 per design) and only 200 shirts produced.
There are 5 millions things that belong here, but without making the design too complex, I chose a few that I thought would be the most iconic:
↑ Hollywood. Can’t miss this one.
↑ The Golden Gate Bridge(this is default for Cali.) Traffic, traffic, traffic. Oh, and the beach.
↑ Poke fun of the trademarks and logos. California Flag. Silicon Valley, the hometown of Apple, Facebook, and Google. Can’t afford to not include that.
↑ Keep it subtle. or maybe obnoxious in this manner – I wonder how much it’d cost for a billboard this big.
↑ If you look closely, there’s highway 5 and Napa Valley, too.

I’ll be revealing one tee a day.
Check back tomorrow for Tee #2.
