Thoughts on short breaks

Some of you have asked to read some insights of running a brand or as a designer. Here goes.

I love what I do – I can spend all day doing design work, coming up with packaging ideas, or working on personal projects. 24 hours just don’t seem enough and sleep feels like a waste of time, but a piece of work doesn’t just come out after you spent X amount of hours; it takes that spark of an idea (plus a good amount of time.)

There are times where I’d spend 8 hours sketching and designing and eventually end up with a crappy design that looked like it’s only worth 20 minutes.  Short breaks seem to serve really well as an enhancer for performance and quality.

Here’s my project wall and workspace:

Here’s how each project’s placed:

↑ There’s a good amount of them. (The priorities are suppose to be done before my upcoming trip. )

With quite a few projects on hand, I spend majority of my time in front of the desk. Though, fuel by passion, my mind gets burnt-out sometimes and start putting out work with really similar style and approach. Writers get writer’s block, we get designer’s blocks.

For times like this, I feel like I’m investing too much effort for too little result, the pay off rate is terrible and try finding another way to attack the obstacle just ain’t the way to go. Instead, getting my mind off whatever I was working on for a little bit, like a short break, serve as the perfect antidote.

I don’t mean by just a physical break, but a mental break as well.
Like really relax and blank out. Who knew, some of my best ideas came poppin’ out during my break-time moments.

Now, go outside.

I was in need of some time off, so we decided to enjoy some sun and play some tennis, a sport that we never played.

Long socks ftw.

The photographs actually made us look like we knew what we were doing.
