Yard Sales Ahead – An Albany Adventure

Sis had a sudden urge to bring us to a near by brunch cafe in Albany (California). Little that we know, an adventure of yard sale hunting was just ahead of us. Oh, that’s a crack on my sis’ car windshield.

Saturday morning. It’s been good while since we last had breakfast (what’s breakfast again?), we really missed the smell of scramble eggs and syrup coated french toasts. (or the god loving omelet and bacon sandwiches with soy milk from authentic Taiwanese breakfast shops! None of those can be found anywhere close to where I live, it just hurts thinking about it.) Anyway.

There are quite a few shops along side Solano Ave. that I couldn’t believe I’d miss.

↑Seemed like a newly renovated Camera shop, not much in stock, but peeps there SUPER nice and helpful.

While in there, I tried the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8. It’s a magnificent piece of glass. Meant for a cropped sensor DSLR. It’s going against lenses like the Canon 17-55mm f2.8 IS (also a beauty, but double the price. Used it for the trip to NYC [thanks, Kev]) and Sigma 17-50mm f2.8.

↑The focus doesn’t seem to be as fast as the Canon, but the image quality’s definitely sharp and crisp. Color seem good, too.

More images taken by the Tamron.

Fast f-stop makes it bokehlicious.

After the quick stop by, we arrived at the, well reviewed, Sunny Side Cafe.

Couldn’t help to stare at the dishes next table when waited for ours. Oh god.

↑ It was my first seeing the dish. Don’t hate.

Nicole joined us for a brief moment.

↑ Tango all day everyday. Download it now for free video chat. (Disclaimer: they didn’t pay me to say this. I wish they did.)

Without the right mindset, I ordered a small cup of OJ. The most expensive OJ I’ve ever ordered. But also the most delicious. I guess. Sis ordered an expensive latte – We should’ve checked the menu instead of checking solely on our instincts.

The stars of the day:

↑whose name escaped my head.

↑I almost forgot how gorgeous breakfast looks like.

↑Is it me, or does this guy look like he’s actually having fun.

Saturday’s now officially garage sale day in my calendar. Cruising around Albany after meal, we spot not 1, but more than 10 garage sales around the area. Sometimes as many as 3 sales on the same block!

Like Elmer Fudd during rabbit season, we went hunting.
And I’m a big fan of yard sales, love the element of surprise – you never know what you’re going to find. Their junks may be someone else’s treasure. Though, majority of the time, their junk are really just our junk, but when that moment of finding the treasure happens, it’s pretty darn sweet.

↑$3. I think it’s way cooler than some of the IKEA clocks that are double that price.

↑Diagonal placement of the interface. pretty cool.

↑Some dude was selling 5 dollar cosmetics (that seem to worth ten times that price, according to google.)

MORE!

Quick break.

and MORE!

Great times.
Albany’s a specular place. Let alone its garage sales, the unique houses that we saw as we stroll across the neighborhood were really inspiring. I also took the chance to ease my mind away from work. Just a short moment of peace seem to boost my productivity more than staring at a screen all day.

That’s a wrap. and My sister’s hat’s not photoshop’d.

’til next time,
