Plushtography – Design Process

Something I’ve been working on with a couple of my friends for quite some time now. We merged our interests in photography with craftiness at making things ( mainly Kevin and Christine’s craftiness) to produce a series of plush lens pillows. Ooh yes.

Sneak peeks of this project have been posted via my 365 every once in awhile. After a couple months of experimenting with various materials and refining the prototypes, it is at its final stage of production (by production, I mean sewing every single number, letter, and focus ring by hand.) Quite a bit of work, but the final product almost put tears in our eyes (and pins in Kevin’s finger).

To get first hand news on its release, please sign up the Plushtography mailing list.

Here are a couple of snap shots on the making of each pillow:

Measured from the original lenses, we made a couple of templates to keep our pillows consistent in scale.

↑Christine’s classy like film SLRs.

We wanted to make sure everything’s just right. Even the fonts.

↑Kevin’s one of the kind “Canon” bracelete. Made by Liz – only place to find it is through here.

More templates.

100% handmade goodness. Stitch by stitch.

For the Nikon peeps out there:

↑The first set of prototypes.

The site dedicated to this will be up and running very soon.
