I was asked to create a t-shirt design with a new approach that I’ve never tried in the past. It was a rather interesting experience, with lots of research. Pretty challenging when taking on this project, but the final design rolls out smoothly after a few drafts and sketches.
[Krizzy Cakes] is a small side project created by Krystal Healy and Isliana “Izzy” Jimenez. Based out of San Antonio, TX, they specialize in custom cakes and desserts!
Guideline:
-White with teal and pink color combination.
-They sent me a sketch of a general concept they’d like designed.
-“Whimsical” style. (a brand new style)
↑The sketch that I built the final design around.
After browsing through loads of whimsical style graphics, I noticed a few things can makes up the style – To express the fantasy, elegant feel, there must be curves, vibrant colors, thin lines, and flowy-ness.
First idea – using cream as an outline for the cake.
↑Issue: was very difficult to write out the letters – and the thickness made the design look less delicate, so I discarded the idea.
2nd one was too geometrical. Lacking the “flowy-ness”
Final draft – incorporating all the elements that I think would make the whimsical style design.
Final design:

Neck label:
BAM.
Quick question:
It’s a necessary element when I design – I’m listening to “She Said” by Plan B
’til next time,
