Alpaca for Alpha Lambda Pledge Class Design Process

Design for the Alpha Lambda Pledge Class at UC Davis. It was a pretty interesting experience, given that it was my first attempt at designing an “alpaca” as well as discovering what an “alpaca” is for the first time.

Background:
-Alpha Lambda’s the pledge class for a business fraternity.
-Alpaca’s the animal representing the pledge class.
-Maroon background.

I didn’t know what an alpaca was – research phase:

Can be found in high altitude along the west side of South America. Bred for their fiber. They resemble small llamas.

By browsing through a series of pictures, it’s not difficult to see what their main traits are: the long neck, pointy ears, white/tanish sheep wool like hair, and llama like facial expressions. word.

I decided to combine the business attire with the alpaca:

Slick hair, coffee, and the suit.
Added pattern and lines to the coffee cup and shirt to give the design more depth. Using the white outline for the black suit makes the design less plain. Black would’ve been too heavy for the already dark maroon tee.

BAM.

’til next design,
