It’s been busy and never found a gap to post up some design work that I’ve done. Today’s the day.
A high school friend of mine approach me for this project. I’ve made shirts for different occasions – but shirts as a statement for achievement’s the first.
Quite a bit to cover for this one, though I was given a lot of room to stretch my ideas.
Background:
–Winter Bball Tournament
-Include a basketball
-A limited tee for the champions
-Include the holiday essence
-Include “For the love of the game”
-Include “3rd Annual Hercules Winter Basketball Tournament”
Limitations:
-2 or less colors
After doodling for a good while, here’s the final sketch.
↑I made quite a few modification after.
The development:
Color choices: Orange and White: Basketball must be orange, would look rather awkward other wise. White for the winter season – also a good balance for the black shirt.
Since these are shirts for the champs, the first thing that popped in my mind are trophies. As much as I’d like to gold foil the trophies (making the shirt look glorious), we simply can’t use more than 2 colors – so I must stick with black/white.
I’ve added elements of Winter and holidays, such as snow, snowman, and lights, to enhance the essence.
Keep the words and phrases small and compact – avoid stealing the attention from the main graphic.
The design:
↑Since they’re contrast colors from the background, I can omit the black outlines, which creates a different type of style for illustration. I like it.
↑Outlines via illustrator. Trophy, check. Snow, check. Holiday, check. Words, check.
BAM.
’til next time,
