The recent disaster in Japan has affected the lives of many. Aside from my monetary donation, I thought I’d contribute through other outlets as well – A t-shirt designed to encourage everyone to help. In moments like this, every effort counts.
The idea:
The first concept generated from a friend of mine, Eileen.
↑ Using Tokyo tower as a symbol of Japan, people group together to help support the bending tower.
Though, the design may be a unique approach for Japan relief while have a good representation of the core idea, it faces a few issues: Not everyone recognizes the Tokyo Tower and for those who do, at first glance, the associate of the tower with Japan doesn’t seem obvious.
With the issues in mind, the solution resulted in the second and final concept:
↑ Concept outline. Keeping the group of people (may not look like people at this point, but I promise it’ll look more decent), but they are now applying a giant band-aid on the crack of the red sun – the most apparent symbol of Japan.
Now into detailing.
The people were painted red and white – I personally thought the colors would represent Japan well, turned out, most people thought they’re one big X’mas tree.
I made some changes to the fellas:
↑ I also hand drawn the letters to make the t-shirt design look more organic.
More detailing for the design:
↑ Be a part of the relief!
Final design:
A new back logo for this particular shirt.
Please help support Japan. The shirt is [now available for pre-order here.]
