Red Balloon x TIZ – Design Process

Red Balloon is a benefit concert sponsoring local non-profits organization and global efforts to secure opportunities for children in third world countries and here in our own backyard. They have events in Davis and San Jose to connect the community through music.

And to contribute to this good cause, I’ll be putting a tee made specifically for Red Balloon.

This coming Saturday (11/20/10) Red Balloon will have its 5th annual concert at UC Davis Sci. Lecture Hall 123. [Facebook Event Page] featuring Donna Ibarra, Ruby Ibarra, Anna de Guzman, Tyler Weinrich, Sam Hart, Songbird, Melvin Guiterrez, Cathy Nguyen WITH SURPRISE PERFORMANCES.

TIZ was also given a little snippet of time to perform. To optimize the time frame and the setting, I decided to invite the Popping Club of UC Davis to put together something aimed particularly for this event.

Each with his own unique personality and style of dance moves, I can’t wait to see what they will bring out myself.

↑ Law, the sandwich muncher. Don’t mess.

↑Airwick. Stop drooling, ladies.

↑Kevin, the bboy/popper.

While the poppers work on the choreo, here’s the design that I came up with for the event:

Background: Red Balloon’s a benefit concert.
Just the basic idea of the event gave me enough room to brainstorm for ideas – music, red balloon, instruments.

Rough sketch:

Concept: A musician playing for passion and for the good cause of the benefit concert – minding the red balloon. Hence, the balloon looking head.

Final Design:

I also included the guitar strap and the mic stand to balance out the graphic as well as add more characteristics to the design. The Balloon that the character’s holding was made intentionally to be cut off at the neck/shoulder part of the shirt to symbolize the boundary-less idea that everyone can help the good cause behind Red Balloon.

“Mind the Red Balloon.” – Balloon head.

Letters of “The Imaginary Zebra” made specifically to reflect the playfulness of the event.

Lastly, a custom back logo also for the event.

Placement of the designs:
