A collaboration with the New York chapter of Taiwanese American Professionals network, the same people that host the annual Asian Film Festival. Invited by Kate, who now works and resides at the Big Apple, to come up with a t-shirt for the organization.
So down for it.
Background//Idea:
– Show the network connections between the Taiwanese Americans.
– Something representative of NYC should be on the shirt
– Personal to the New Yorkers, not a tourist shirt.
We first listed out all the landmarks and symbols of NY: Statue of Liberty, Big Apple, Subways…etc.
The first draft:
Big Apple with the core take shape of Taiwan. Worms stick out with biz suit. It didn’t work out too well, since the graphic might be misleading. Also, it wasn’t as personal as we wanted the design to be.
Tossed that away.
Draft 2:
Reconsidered the things that reflects NYC on a more personal bases – Beverages: Latte Coffee with a NYC packaging to symbolize NY and tapioca drink to symbolize Taiwan.
Examine the products.
Sketch out design.
Color and refine lines. I went for the hand drawn approach to make the design less serious (Though, not that it was serious to begin with.)
Fin.
