Tennis Club at UCD – Design Process

This time I collaborated with the tennis club at UCD!

Lap, a good friend of mine, messaged me on this tee collabo idea. Even though I can barely hit the ball within the court, I can at least approach tennis in my own ways through pen and paper. (and Adobe Illustrator.)

Guidelines:
-Include “Tennis Club at UC Davis”
-Navy color shirt, light color fonts.

The rest were up to me, woot:

↑ I roughly sketch out a few ideas – none of them really made it to the final cut.

I figured the graphic should be something that has to do tennis AND UC Davis. (My captain obvious moment.)
So I proceeded to the next step: listing out a couple of attributes of tennis & Davis that came to mind:

↑-Ball and racket / -The court and net / -Scoring system: 15-30-40-45 / -The Aggies

A combination of those became the solution.

↑ More sketches that didn’t make the cut – though, the ideas are slowly coming together.

Ended with this guy:

The final sketch:
-I stuck with the vibrant neon ball – it’d pop on the navy shirt.
-I used the Aggie’s mane as the key signature for this guy – Sorta look like a mohawk – it’s bad ass.
-Holding a racket in the court.

Digitizing:

BAM.
