Vent Magazine general t-shirt for 2009 – 2010. Vent has collaborated with TIZ a couple of times in the past, been lots of fun – they’re really open and respect to what I have offered.
Background:
Vent Magazine is an Asian American Politics and Popular Culture Magazine based out of UC Davis. They’ve brought many bold topics to table – Sex, Marijuana, and the recent Cash vs Education issues.
For this collabo, they only gave me one guideline – they want graphics.
Process:
I want to incorporate the significance of the geographic locations, the venting action, and the ideas(in multiple words) behind the magazine.
1. Geographic location: The Water tower is one of Davis landmarks. I thought the electric poles and the resting crows would also be one of them.
2.The person symbolizes the magazine itself: Vent magazine has always been putting out controversial issues that people, often time, don’t talk about. Hence, the shouting person. I use just one as oppose to many because I wanted it to represent Vent as THE one that speaks out and spread awareness.
I want to make sure the person actually SHOUTS.
3. The base that the person stands on would be the foundation of the magazine: Made out of words like “change”, “pop culture”, “voice”..etc.
So here’s what I came out with:
I framed the whole thing with a geometrical shape to keep things clean.
